Cocoa Cashmere.

Notes: Vanilla Tonka, Jasmine, Cocoa Butter

Preview: On a winter evening in January, Samantha slipped on her buttery soft pinkish beige cashmere sweater to pair with her new, fabulous high-waisted dark denim skinny jeans and black leather ankle boots. She hurriedly grabbed her lucky nude lipstick on her vanity and slipped it into her purse. She quickly remembered to spray a spritz of her favorite jasmine vanilla perfume before dashing out of her NYC apartment to get ready for her second date with Smith, who was waiting patiently down in the lobby with the bellman.

Author Notes: This scent reminds me of the weekends I spent with my mom shopping in her favorite department store. I would touch all the expensive cashmere sweaters that were neatly folded on display and sneak in a few tester perfume sprays that were on the counters.

Cucumber melon.

Notes: Cucumber, cantalope, greenery

Preview: Tracy felt defeated after her 2nd period English teacher, Mr. Palmer, punished the rowdy class with a surprise pop quiz. Tracy was bordlining between an A- and a B+ in the class, so she really needed to do well for the remainder of the quarter in order to be eligible for Lovelle High, her parents’ dream school. It was all her parents talked about all year. She wanted to numb her worries by flirting with Jordan, who she shares 3rd period gym class with. Tracy rushed to the girls’ locker room to change into her thick, navy washed-up PE uniform. She then slathered a thick layer of her favorite cucumber melon lotion all over her shaved legs and arms to cover the sweat-infused clothes. She wanted to impress Mr. MVP of the boys basketball league at Presideon Middle School.

Author’s notes: This scent brings me back to my middle school days when every girl that I knew wore this famous cucumber melon lotion. It’s a 90s throwback for sure.

Yuzu & Satsuma.

Preview: Mindy’s favorite memory of her aunt is visiting the local Korean supermarket on the weekends. She loved browsing the produce aisle and getting lessons on how to pick the best seasonal produce to bring home to her parents. Last spring, her aunt made her select the most perfectly round and riped citrus fruits that permeated its fragrance through the skin, so she can bring home to her mother’s fortieth birthday.

Author’s notes: I loved visiting Asian markets growing up because they were where I felt the most free. I was able to roam through the aisles by myself and throw in my favorite snacks in the shopping cart. Going to the checkout line was always a thrilling experience. Our cart was full of my favorite snacks, and as I slowly unloaded them onto the conveyor belt, I braced myself for the possible disappointment of my mom handing them back to me.
